Presenting Our 2018 season:
The Play is the thing

A note from Artistic Director, Dorinda Toner:

"The theme for our 2018 season was "The Play is the Thing." I feel the material chosen really spoke to how theater enriches our lives; be it told via a play within a play, plays about the acting and directing experience, influential plays that have changed the course of theater, or plays that have helped shape our culture and society today.

I hope you enjoyed the selections as much as I enjoyed putting them together for you. Thank you for your continued support of Twilight Theater Company; I hope to bring you "Entertainment with Edge" for many years to come. Please be sure to check out our 2019 season by clicking here."

Antigone
by Sophocles, adapted by Lewis Galantiere, based on the play be Jean Anouilh

January 26th-February 11th, 2018
Produced in modern dress, the Galantiere version of the Greek legend comes from a Paris that suffered under the heel of tyranny. The play's parallels to modern times are exciting and provocative.

Stage Kiss
by Sarah Ruhl

March 9th-25th, 2018
Art imitates life, life imitates art. When two actors with a history are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930's melodrama, they quickly lose touch with reality as the story onstage follows them offstage. It is a charming tale about what happens when lovers share a stage kiss--or when actors share a real one

It's Only a Play
by Terrence McNally

April 27th - May 13th, 2018
It's the opening night of The Golden Egg on Broadway, and the wealthy producer is throwing a lavish party in her Manhattan townhouse. Downstairs the celebrities are pouring in, but the real action is upstairs, where a group of insiders have staked themselves out to await the reviews.
Produced by special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service.

The Maltese Bodkin
by David Belke

June 8th-24th, 2018
A comedy mystery with a Shakespearean twist. Times were tough for hard boiled detective Birnam Wood. He never asked to be in London. Especially in 1605. When his partner is murdered, Wood has to find the killer amid a vast cast of suspects that includes (among others) Viola, Richard III, Falstaff, Iago, and a merchant from Venice. The worlds of detective fiction and Shakespeare collide in this "who hath done it."
Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Venus in Fur
by David Ives

July 27th - August 12th, 2018
Thomas, a beleaguered playwright/director, is desperate to find an actress to play Vanda, the female lead in his adaptation of the classic sadomasochistic tale Venus in Fur. Into his empty audition room walks an equally desperate actress--oddly enough, named Vanda. As the two work through the script, they blur the line between play and reality, entering an increasingly serious game of submitting and domination.

Private Eyes
by Steven Dietz

September 7th-23rd, 2018
Mathew's wife is having an affair with a theatre director. Or perhaps the affair is part of the play being rehearsed. Or perhaps Matthew has imagined all of it simply to have something to report to his therapist. The audience itself plays the role of detective in this "relationship thriller" about love, lust and the power of deception.
Produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.

Marat/Sade
by Peter Weiss

October 12th-28th, 2018
"Total theatre" is the expression critics have used to describe this unique event. The Marquis de Sade, when an inmate of the Asylum of Charenton, stages plays performed by fellow inmates. Peter Weiss has created one of the most powerful and exciting plays of the century.

Produced by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing.

by Ken Ludwig

November  30th- December 16th, 2018
A broadway star, admired the world over for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, has invited his cast-mates to his castle. When one of the guests is murdered the festivities quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to the star himself, assuming the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer. The hilarity is
non-stop in this holiday whodunit.
